David Rory O'Neill. Novelist.
Introduction: Daniel's Conflict is a genre defying rip roaring ride that will grab you and take you for a sometimes shocking trip into the heart of conflict and before long you will be rooting for our unlikely heroes as they journey towards freedom and seek salvation.
Daniel is a gritty down and dirty James Bond who does not fight for Queen and country but for idealism, love, freedom and the right to choose. He is an individualist who fights the bullies of all tribes and colours. His partner is Lauren, a fierce, powerful amazon of a woman who shares Daniel's world view and is attracted to his challenging masculinity, tenderness and hedonism but is also afraid of the way he undermines her ambiguous sexuality. Their love affair is unravelling under the strains of the double lives they lead and then Bonny explodes upon them. Bonny is a voluptuous force of nature and femininity personified; full of earth-mother natural wisdom, huge potential and implacable determination to escape the limitations of her family and past. Bonny's innocence and guileless seduction disarms the cynical pair and she becomes the instrument that will change all their lives and perhaps help them survive the conflict that has made them, brought them together and that may yet destroy them.

About me: Writing has been such a joy for me I cannot now imagine doing anything else. I know the struggle to get published can be punishing but I can see no other future for myself. Even in my mid fifties I love the creative process and have a strong sense that the work is worthy of large scale publication and so will keep slogging away until that success comes. Daniel's Conflict is the first in a series of seven novels and is out now.
My hero Daniel’s life mirrors mine in many respects in that I too had to face a new career in 1982 due to serious back injury. I also started life in Belfast and rejected the tribal violence there utterly. Like Daniel, I am a non-conformist who rejects the tribal values that remain such a powerful influence in our country. These novels are about surviving conflict and struggling to maintain a moral path when all the influences around you are dragging you towards expediency and political and moral corruption. The work is adult in nature and sexuality is simply and honestly portrayed. Violence when used is vivid but not gratuitous.
There are politically sensitive issues that are now world wide, (terrorism and a states response to it) tackled here from a viewpoint rarely seen before. The Irish themes are again not at all typical of what is usually seen. This potentially very controversial work is based on actual events and the series reveals aspects of the UK's involvement in Ireland rarely revealed.
I concentrate on building rich complex characters that will engage the reader and make them want to know these peoples story. I seek to encourage the reader to explore how they come to be living these unconventional lives and to read the whole series as it is published.
